About BRT

Desert racing has been established in Texas for over 20 years with sanctioned events held south of San Antonio and in the silt beds and terrain of Odessa. BRT was formed to continue the growth of off-road racing in Texas and to provide additional safe and fun racing venues for the entire off-road community.  We continue to promote all aspects of desert racing, responsible environmental use and motorsports safety and education.

President Chris Leitner has assembled a large and very diverse support staff.  Along with Shannon Boothe, Greg Atwell, Duane McCreary and the rest of the BRT team,  this group has a combined 100+ years of experience in organizing, promoting and participating in off-road racing events.  In addition, by partnering with landowners, other associations, companies and leaders throughout the off-road industry BRT is delivering the “Texas Premiere Off-Road Racing Experience”.

Baja Racing of Texas organized two races for the inaugural 2011 season, both over a 43-mile course at the Texana Ranch, south of Abilene. The Texana 250 started the season off and the widely-successful Chupacabra 300 capped of a fantastic year. Drivers come from TX, LA, OK, CA, AZ, KS, NM, AR, and GA to race the BRT series.

BRT continued its growth throughout the 2012 season. Joint events with the Outlaw Desert Racing Association, Raptor Performance Group, and Ultra4 Racing allowed continued expansion of desert racing in Texas. An extensive article about Baja Racing of Texas was published in the August 2012 edition of Off-Road magazine. The article showcases BRT’s contribution to off-road racing in Texas and highlights the advantages of moving Baja events to the area, including the state’s central location and large expanses of privately-owned land. BRT is looking forward to helping expand the growth of off-road racing throughout Texas for the 2013 season and beyond.

BRT is looking for volunteers for events.  We are looking for people to help with racing and events, everything from flag men, check points, pit access and more.  If you belong to a 4×4 club or group and would like to see some desert racing up close, please contact us about volunteering.
